John Knox Bridges was supposed to appear in Federal Court for sentencing Friday, but didn't show up.
Bridges pled guilty to a Ponzi scheme last year that included taking money from the North Carolina Museum Foundation.
He took millions of dollars from the foundation and several other victims.
A federal judge issued a warrant for his arrest Friday.
Authorities said he convinced people to invest in a phony oil company in Texas to steal more than $2 million.
Police said Bridges was last seen leaving his house Friday by a family member.
Police said he left in a 2004 charcoal gray Volvo station wagon.
Police ask anyone with more information on this case to call them.
