Financial waters calmer at Whitewater Center: "(By David Perlmutt, dperlmutt@charlotteobserver.com) After navigating turbulent financial waters since opening in 2006, the U.S. National Whitewater Center turned a promising operating profit in 2010. But that was only with help from local governments and after lenders wiped out much of its debts.
The nonprofit facility in northwest Mecklenburg County reported a 16 percent increase in gross revenues for the fiscal year that ended Oct. 31, taking in $10 million. That's up from $8.6 million in 2009, a new audit shows."
