CMC helped test landmark melanoma drug: "(By Karen Garloch, kgarloch@charlotteobserver.com) Carolinas Medical Center cancer specialists and patients participated in studies that led to Friday's approval of the first drug shown to prolong the lives of patients with late-stage melanoma.

The drug, called ipilimumab or Yervoy, is the first new melanoma drug to get approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 13 years."
