Fed Governor urges study of large financial institutions

Fed Governor urges study of large financial institutions: "(By Rick Rothacker, rrothacker@charlotteobserver.com) Regulators need more research on the 'social utility' of large complex financial institutions and their potential negative effect on the financial system as they implement reform rules, a Federal Reserve governor told a Charlotte audience today.

During debate over new restrictions on the industry last summer, some advocated that large banks be broken up to reduce risk to the financial system. Those arguments didn't win out, although closer scrutiny is now being applied to banking giants such as Charlotte-based Bank of America Corp."
